If you receive a traffic ticket you may be eligible to attend traffic school. Only infractions that count as one point on your driving record are eligible for traffic school. DUI and other criminal vehicle offenses are not. Correctable violations are not eligible since they are not considered moving violations and, therefore, a conviction would not result in a point on your driving record.
There are several benefits to attending traffic school in California, including:
-
Getting the violation dismissed. By attending and completing traffic school, a conviction will not appear on your driving record.
-
Avoiding points on your driving record. If you attend traffic school, the violation will not be reported to the DMV, and you will avoid getting points on your driving record.
-
Keeping your car insurance rates low. Points on your driving record can cause your car insurance rates to increase. By attending traffic school, you can keep your driving record clean and avoid higher insurance premiums.
-
Learning safe driving techniques. Traffic school provides a refresher course on safe driving techniques, including defensive driving, which can help you become a safer and more responsible driver.
You may only attend traffic school once every 18 months. Additionally, attending traffic school is not free, and you will need to pay a fee to enroll in the course.
