There are over 20 courthouses in Los Angeles County where criminal and DUI cases are held. The court branch your case takes place in depends on the location of your arrest. A driver arrested in Studio City, Sherman Oaks, Van Nuys, and many other parts of the Valley, will have their case at the Van Nuys Courthouse. DUI drivers arrested on the westside of Los Angeles, including Santa Monica, Beverly Hills, Culver City, and Marina del Rey, will have to go to the Airport Courthouse. If you were arrested in Hermosa Beach, Redondo Beach, Manhattan Beach, or Torrance, DUI charges will filed at the Torrance Courthouse.
When a person is charged with DUI, or any criminal offense, a complaint is filed by a criminal prosecuting agency. The agency that files the charges will also depend on the location of your arrest. The Los Angeles County District Attorney's Office prosecutes felony DUI and other felony criminal cases throughout Los Angeles County. They also prosecute misdemeanor cases where the arrests occurred in unincorporated parts of Los Angeles County and in cities which do not have a city attorney that prosecutes criminal cases. If your misdemeanor DUI arrest occurred within the City of Los Angeles, the Los Angeles City Attorney has jurisdiction to file criminal charges. Similarly, the Pasadena City Prosecutor handles DUI arrests that occurred in the city of Pasadena and the Santa Monica City Attorney prosecutes DUI arrests that occurred in the city of Santa Monica. Redondo Beach, Hermosa Beach, Hawthorne, Long Beach, and Inglewood also have city prosecutors that file and prosecute misdemeanor DUI cases.
